I love food markets, especially Mercato Centrale because there’s such a huge selection of specialty dishes. You can pretty much find whatever it is that you’re craving for all under one roof.

One night, Terence and I decided to brave the heavy crowd and do a little exploring amongst Mercato’s stalls to find food to eat for late dinner. After munching on tacos, beef salpicao, roti and takoyaki, we dropped by the Merry Moo Ice Cream booth to get our dessert fix.

 

 

As we approached the booth, I got excited because I saw quite a crowd surrounding the freezers. A lot of people were lining up to purchase cups of ice cream, so I knew that we were definitely in for a treat. Upon reading the flavors, we couldn’t decide what we wanted because the selection was so unique and everything sounded really good!

 

 

We asked to try a couple of flavors (including Honeycomb and Poprocks and Mallows) and we couldn’t decide because everything was so tasty! After much debating over what to get, we finally ended up with our winners: Sea Salt Caramel and Earl Grey Tea. These flavors turned out to be two their best sellers. If you look closely at the photo above, the guy is scooping out of the Sea Salt Caramel flavor and there was barely any left because it was so popular!

 

 

 

I was instantly drawn to the flavor of Sea Salt Caramel because I usually steer away from food that is too sweet, and this flavor had the perfect touch of saltiness to it. One thing I noticed about this flavor was that it was really creamy, which made the ice cream taste extra delicious. The texture was unlike anything that I had tried before. I learned from the staff that the unique texture is a result of the temperature that they keep the ice cream in, and Merry Moo prides themselves in the way that they maintain the creamy goodness.

As for the Earl Grey Tea, I have to say that this was my ultimate favorite amongst the selection of other amazing flavors! Prior to Merry Moo, I had never tried Earl Grey flavored ice cream (closest I’ve had is probably green tea, which is one of my favorites too) and now I’m definitely ecstatic that I finally got a taste of it! Most people would probably associate Earl Grey Tea with being too strong or bitter, but Merry Moo’s take on it is the total opposite! Their Earl Grey Tea ice cream was fragrant without being overpowering, and it was really refreshing! This for me is an absolute must-try! I would definitely go back to Mercato just to get another cup of this.
